My acne journey

I first started getting acne when I was in 7th grade or so, but it was just 1-2 zits every now and then. That’s how it was until the end of my freshman year in high school which is when I started to get cystic acne, and it soon became pretty severe.

My self-esteem plummeted. I remember there were times when I would cry alone in my room because I felt hopeless, and I remember the pain of washing my face because even the slightest pressure hurt because of all of my acne cysts.

From the end of my freshman year and throughout my whole sophomore year, I had anxiety along with low self-confidence and cystic acne.

I had actually skipped classes multiple times each month because of it. Every now and then I would sneak out at lunch time (most of the times with 1 or 2 of my friends) during my sophomore year and would skip my next few, if not the rest of my classes that day to avoid interacting with classmates because I did not want them to see my acne.

[With them it was always super fun! We often would visit the Southwest Washington Humane Society to look at the animals, and then go to Tropical Smoothie Cafe and get deliiisshhh ginormous smoothies!]

The summer after my freshman year I spent most of my days at home due to my low self-esteem and anxiety, and a lot of that time was spent in my room researching about natural ways to get rid of acne.

That July, after deciding to adopt a fully plant-based diet, my acne definitely became less severe, but was still apparent and I also had acne scars covering my cheeks and chin area.

Eventually, though, my acne started to get a little bit worse again, and I was struggling with chronic bloating. This continued until I made some diet & lifestyle changes after I started my schooling to become a Holistic Nutrition Coach.

Over time, as I kept learning new, science-backed information and making changes to my diet and lifestyle, my acne continued improving and I knew that I was on the right path to clearing my chronic cystic acne for good!

Due to my journey with acne, being overweight as a kid in elementary school, disordered eating patterns, emotional eating, anxiety, and low self-confidence in the past, I have become extremely passionate about holistic healing and helping others; so here I am today as a Holistic Nutrition Coach! I would not be who I am today or where I am today if it weren’t for my past struggles, so I am grateful to have endured them!
